KDHX CUTS AN IMPORTANT NEWS SOURCE

According to an informal community survey conducted by KDHX members this September, listeners and members of KDHX overwhelmingly favor bringing the award winning Democracy Now! back to its full hour broadcast five days a week on the radio station.

This response follows the decision by KDHX management to cut Democracy Now! airtime to a mere ten minute headlines broadcast Monday through Friday back in August (reported back on August 8 on the STL IMC newswire).

Many responding to the survey complained about cutting the news show 's broadcast time: "You can't get the full story on the world in just one hour, let alone 10 minutes," one person responded.

KDHX Drops Democracy Now from Programming Schedule

from the new KDHX programming notes, effective august 11th -

"Democracy Now! will run as a 10-minute headline service airing at 6:50 pm followed by local talk. You can catch the full version of DN! on the web 24 hours a day at DemocracyNow.org and at 6 and 11 pm on KDHX TV 21 on Charter Cable in the City of Saint Louis."

"We know that sometimes it's hard to think about changing something that has become a part of your everyday routine, but we wanted to help you get ready for the change with a little background on what's coming and why we're making these changes. We will be doing a listener survey in the fall to learn about how our audience is using the new schedule, so be sure to look for it and tell us what you think. If you want to comment on the changes prior to that, please email us with your comments."

The KDHX Media Bringdown – I: Documentation

"KDHX-TV" stiffs St. Louis IMC on a joint 'Media Training' project, scuttles the plans and breaks the deal, then 'shoots the messenger'... and the Board stuffs a protest and wreaks revenge.

A case study in local mediapolitix -- how collaborations crashed and burned, in a tailspin of events since Spring '07. This is the first public release of the paper-trail, an index of defining documents to date, just to put the facts on the table, and spur public debate.

To follow, Part II: The Story, with reflections on meanings for the media community.
