Welcome to the Open Publishing Newswire. Click here to publish. SAVE OUR CHILDREN'S EDUCATION - And Now - On to the Supreme Court! 9/4/08Dear Friends, In a few short weeks, the Missouri Supreme Court could be hearing our appeal
We expect
opponents of public education to intensify their attacks in the
weeks running up to the hearing. As you know, the state department of education moved to take over St. Louis Public Schools to stop your movement for more educational opportunities for your children. They ousted your elected representatives in order to say that ordinary citizens should have no voice in deciding what education for their children should look like. They worried about your desire to limit the role of private corporations in the school system and annulled your vote in order to protect and sustain corporate contracts. In the next few weeks, we expect to see more attacks on you and your elected school board as opponents of public education try to set the stage for the Supreme Court¹s hearing. That is why we need your help now. We want to make sure you are represented by the best possible lawyers before the Supreme Court and we want to be able to respond to public attacks on your educational rights, your voting rights, and your rights to be involved in public decision-making. Doing that takes money, however. Please send your donation now, in any amount, from $10 to $10,000, to: Save Our Children¹s Education P.O. Box 21642 St. Louis, MO 63109-0642

The efforts to spin corporate control as somehow better than popular control have already started. From the governor¹s effort to declare state control a success while ignoring the mass exodus of students from the school system and the chaotic start of the school year to the daily newspaper¹s embargo on news and comment from your elected school board, opponents of public education are trying to put a happy face on their failures and crush your democratic spirit. Just this week, Robbyn Wahby, the mayor's "education liaison," mocked your efforts to improve public schools. Hundreds of you worked with the elected school board to develop a plan to improve our schools. Hundreds more of you worked with the elected board resolve specific problems in specific schools as they came up to get supplies where they were needed, repairs made, adult supervision on playgrounds, and so on and Wahby belittled all your work as "nothing." Don¹t let them silence you. Make your voice heard. Send your donation now to: Save Our Children¹s Education P.O. Box 21642 St. Louis, MO 63109-0642

Thank you for joining the thousands of ordinary St. Louisans who refuse to be treated as "nothing." Sincerely, Peter Downs For Save Our Children¹s Education License Option: |
