Obama Wins. Where from Here? Peaceworks' Perspective
Hello friends,
This week we depart from our usual Updates format. We will be sending an event update with Nook News in a day or two. We do want to remind you that our Annual Dinner is this Saturday, Nov. 15. Details are at http://www.midmopeaceworks.org/events.php#258
This post, however, offers our perspective on the current moment, examining the implications of Obama's election and what it bodes for those of us working for peace, sustainability and social justice. We hope you will take a few minutes to read it through and consider our our perspective. We, of course, invite and welcome your feedback. Note that we have not tried to be comprehensive in addressing the issues that will need to be addressed in the months ahead. Rather, we have attempted to put together a framework for understanding our current situation and used a few examples to illustrate our situation.
Thanks for your interest and your work to move us forward in our shared efforts to promote a peaceful, just and sustainable future.
Your friends at Peaceworks

St. Charles City Cuts Voice Of Dissent
The city of St. Charles, made famous by it's outlawing of cursing in public bars, is at it again. Within hours of a banner being displayed on a busy pat of I-70, the city removed the banner, and the voice of the people with it.
A banner reading: "FIGHT THE RICH, DON'T VOTE FOR THEM" was dropped today, November 4th, on an overpass in St. Charles, MO. The banner, which measured aproximately 6 ft. x 20 ft., was streched across on overpass just outside of the county's largest voting station. Within thirty yards of the banner, billboards for casinos and gated communities have flown high and intrusive over the much driven freeway, without any disturbance.

Novartis Knock Down Day
Novartis Knock Down Day is a call for actions against Novartis on Monday, October 27th for being one of Huntingdon Life Sciences’ (HLS’s) largest customers. Without customers of Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS) there simply would be no Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS). The customers pay Huntingdon to test products and carry out research. If Huntingdon lost all their customers then they would have no income and be forced to close. There are only ten companies which give Huntingdon Life Sciences 45% of their income; these include Novartis, GlaxoSmithKline, and Bristol-Myers Squibb.
